The Time Machine

Meanings change over time. The Ilm Al-Quran course takes you back in time so you can see how the Arabic words were used during the time of revelation. Language changes over time, new words are coined, words previously coined take on new meanings. This has become a source of much misunderstanding in terms of the Quran. Translations unfortunately do not take these changes into consideration. The course is designed to teach Arabs and non-Arabs alike. Seven of the most renowned lexicons, such as Kitab al-Ayn, and Mufradat Raghib are used to get a more precise meaning of each word.

Life is Short, I Don't Have Much Time

The course only consists of 60 lessons, including 3 application books. If studied full time, the course can be comfortably completed in 4 months with a total of 75-100 hours spent on lessons and practice. It applies the content-based method of language acquisition, practicing over 3,000 ayat of the Quran with the student to ensure proficiency in practice. Just by completing book 1 you will gain a wealth of knowledge.

We Hate Grammar and We Hope You Do Too

Grammar tends to chase people away from learning language. Our course uses grammar on a need to know basis. People do not learn grammar in order to comprehend and speak in their own languages, so there is no reason they should heavily invest in it to learn another language. Children know close to no grammatical rules. They simply apply them naturally. We have tried to minimize a student's interaction with grammatical principles in the beginning while gradually increasing the number as the course progresses.

As a native Arabic speaker, you think you are able to comprehend the meaning of most words. However, after attending the course, it quickly became apparent that the true meanings of the Quranic words vary to current day definitions and each word is chosen with purpose and precision.

Rameez Naqvi

It has helped me appreciate the depth in the Holy Qur'an, as well as how particular words are used to emphasis specific ideas. It makes me truly understand how this is a miracle from Allah. I would recommend this course to others, it’s concise, well-taught and well laid out resources

This course has tremendously helped me understand and connect with Al-Quran. I would recommend it to others because this course gives understanding of the Quranic words and their deeper meanings. It helps view the meaning in context and truly understand what message is being delivered in the verses.

Abeer Canani

This course has helped my understanding of religion and the Quran, especially the spiritual side of the course which was more effective than anything else! To be specific, it really helped my namaz and made it more beautiful! Alhamdulillah. I attended another course and it was not at all like this course. In this course, we learn the real meaning of the words and that makes reciting the Quran even more beautiful especially when the teacher shows you the real meaning of what Allah is trying to really say. The other course that I attended didn't do that at all. I didn't find it helpful at all. I would recommend this course to others because you learn the right meaning of the words and hence the right meaning of what the Quran is telling us and also gain some spirituality together with it.

This course has greatly improved not only my understanding of the Qur'an and duas but also my deen. The course goes deep into the concepts of the words in the Qur'an, not just a basic translation. These concepts helped me understand that there are immaterial realities that words are meant to communicate. I will most definitely recommend the course to anyone who is looking to improve themselves spiritually and also improve their understanding of the Qur'an can greatly benefit from this course.

This course has given me the insight for the deeper meaning by understanding the Root words and it's connection with the apparent meaning. It has helped me know how different words emerge from Root words. This understanding has greatly impacted my understanding of Aqaid and basics. The course under TRS is absolutely amazing and had given me a totally different perspective of understanding the Qur'an and Deen itself. It's very different from other traditional courses which are merely dictionary courses with no teaching support.

Haroon Waseem

This course cleared up a lot of the concepts that the Quran mentions. After taking this course, I was able to tie the words of the Quran to the concepts and realities those words represent. This helped reform my worldview to become more Allah centered than before. The difference between this course and the others I have taken cannot be emphasized enough. To put it shortly, and bluntly, other courses translate Arabic to English or vice versa. They are simple translation courses. This course translates the Arabic into the concepts and high realities those Arabic words represent. This course makes those concepts and realities understandable and applicable within our daily lives. I will recommend this course to anyone who seeks closeness to Allah, clarification of the reality, and wants to lead an Allah centered life.

Laith Al-Moktar

Being a native Arabic speaker I had assumed the meanings of many quranic phrases and words by the modern Arabic I know. This course was able to take me back and teach me the roots and basics of phrases in the Quran and the miraculous way in which they are structured. It goes to the absolute fundamentals instead of working with assumed knowledge. I would recommend this course to others because It will give people greater understanding and respect for the Quran.

Lot of aqaid and misconceptions were addressed in the course and clarified. Better and deeper meanings of words help understand the Quran in a better manner which makes understanding more effective. I would recommend the course to others. After completing the 1st book, it became evident our shortcomings in understanding the Quran and the concepts behind the verses and how things are kept hidden from the believers.

This course has helped with understanding Islam through the Quran. It has helped me garner a deeper meaning of Allah's words, what He's trying to tell us and what this religion entails. Before this course, my actions were mere acts with no comprehension. Now, every action carries a deeper purpose to bring myself closer to Allah (SWT). I have not attended other courses - but know others that have. Most of the other courses focus on translation of the verses verbatim. They do not delve into the deeper understanding of the root words. This course is different in that regard.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to others. Whether you are a new learner with limited understanding of Arabic, or someone with a basic knowledge of Arabic, this course will help you. It will help you perfect your religion. It will give you the why behind the what. I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to others. Whether you are a new learner with limited understanding of Arabic, or someone with a basic knowledge of Arabic, this course will help you. It will help you perfect your religion. I'm learning the correct meaning, and translation of verses from a knowledgeable, and pious teacher through practical method. Now performing namaz, and duas are more understandable, and pleasant for me. May Allah help us to act according to his instructions and be a real follower of Ah- al-Bait in preparing the path for reappearance of promised Mahdi (p.b.u.h). I've attended in Arabic to Farsi courses before. That was good too, but because it emphasized more in grammatical points, and was limited only to lesson books, it was somehow boring. In this class we not only learn translating the Qur'an, but also interpretation of verses. We also learn more the history of Islam, traditions ,and Islamic behaviour in modern societies ,especially, with non-Muslims, non-Shias, and the young people who are alienated by western culture. I would recommend this to others because I've learned many things, such as what I mentioned above.

The course has been extremely helpful in the understanding of the Qur’an. No matter who you’re or what language you speak, this course has the ability to make you think outside of the box. It teaches us the real method used to be able to learn and most importantly understand what you’re reading in the Qur’an. With such a wonderful and experienced teacher, who can explain the complexity of the Qur’an in depth and make it easier to understand without the need of translations is like mouthfuls being fed into your mouth. All in all, a fun and enthusiastic course that can potentially change your point of view in life. I myself have benefited a lot from the course and have plenty more to learn. When I used to be little, I attended courses of Qur’an that taught us how to pronounce or read the words/verses of the Qur’an and not understand it. Unlike this ILM QURAN COURSE ,where the meanings of the words are identified and clearly understood by anyone who’s willing to search for the truth. I would recommend this course to others, such a gem should be available and accessible to everyone who’s willing to search for the truth. Also a great place to socialise and meet with different people from different parts of the world.

This course has been very helpful to further enhance my understanding of the Quran. It's taught by teachers who are really passionate about cultivating positive relationships with our creator and deepening our connection with the Quran. would highly recommend this course to others to help them in understanding the Quran, as well as improving their relationship with Allah SWT. Thanks for a great course!

I’m a native Arab speaker and only after the course I now understand the deeper meaning from learning the root words. I would recommend this course to others as it's very helpful. It makes you think about the words in context, not just a literal meaning as one would read in a translation, this course helps develop a deeper understanding of how and why certain phrases/words were used. Great work, I really enjoyed it.

Ghazala Gokal

I was familiar with basic Arabic vocab when I started the course, however the emphasis on the deeper meaning of the root words helped my understanding of the finer nuances in the Quran. I would recommend this course to others mainly because of how quickly and effortlessly one develops an understanding of some of the verses in the Quran. This is very encouraging and leads to an added interest in the language of the Quran and a more intimate relationship with the Holy Book.

I am able to grasp deeper concepts as intended while reading the Quran. This has led to a deeper appreciation of our beautiful deen. I would recommend this course because of the organization of content and strategies taught. Highly appreciative of the teacher’s understanding manner and encouraging attitude. It has truly allowed for real learning to take place!

Attending Book 1 course taught me the deeper meaning of important words and gave me a complete understanding of Islam. After attending the course, I don't force myself to offer prayer or read Quran instead I am attracted towards salaat, Quran and Inclined towards Allah. Course helps a lot in getting out of traditions which I consider mandatory. Recently joined another course ,that is quite traditional and just teaches you word meanings.

Durre Shahwar Raza Ali Abdi

I have personally completed this course twice within two years in Auckland!! Yes it has that much depth that you feel like doing it again and again because it completely changed my perspective to look at life and I’m learning to view everything beyond its physical/material appearance!!!

After I tried other courses on understanding Quran I reached this conclusion, To the best of my Knowledge no other course on Quranic understanding matches its level so far because of the following reasons:

  1. Actually this course is not only a simple word translation but much more. Its essence lies in directing the human mind away from the material world and the learner gets to introduce to the realities of life and other realms of existence which intrigues a spiritual thought process in learner's mind. This trait is absolutely absent in other courses.

  1. The detailed in-depth explanation of each n every important word in Arabic relating to its root word is the unique part of this course. This course provides you with consolidated and the most authentic concept of the meaning of any word which certainly is not present in other courses. For example, other courses would just translate the word “Allah” as meaning Allah but in this TRS Quran course the detailed and mind-blowing explanation of the word “Allah”  was something never heard before and actually required a lot of explanation to understand it properly.

  1. In this TRS course grammatical concepts are made really easy to understand and practice as compared to other courses.

  1. It is conducted by a qualified Teacher from Howza who has designed its content himself; he's right there to clear any questions or confusions that arise in a student’s mind. There's no replacement of Teacher's presence in the classroom.

  1. Unlike other courses, having a teaching background I can confirm in an interactive classroom setting this course caters well to all main types of auditory, visual and kinaesthetic learners.

My family including my teenager also completed this Book 1. We all are doing Book 2 now.

I strongly believe it’s essential for our youth in western countries especially, insha'Allah it will be helpful in protecting their Aqaaed from this environment of denial of our true beliefs.

I definitely want all of my extended family and friends, well-wishers to get benefitted from this true light of Knowledge of Quran e Kareem.

Anytime later in your life you’ll always appreciate the decision to take this course for in-depth understanding of the Quran while reading as no translation can do justice to the language Almighty chose to talk to us!

This course helped me understand the depth and complexity of the Arabic language. It revealed to me, the inadequacy of the translations and the importance of learning the real language that it was written in. It has helped transform the way I practice my acts of worship, into something deeper and more conscious.

I have attended other Arabic courses, and whilst those courses were also great, the ones I attended were more in line with Modern Standard Arabic, and didn't delve into the root words as deeply. The other courses were also presented in secular environments, so they didn't combine it to religious texts. I have also attended other Quran courses, but they have been the traditional "learn to read Arabic" and that's it. They were not effective in more than reading as a child and forgetting as an adult. I also help teach similar ineffective classes, as it's better than nothing, but I'd love to build a foundation and teach the children more.

I would recommend this course to others.  The way that the course is structured and delivered is extremely engaging and thought provoking. The language slowly but continuously unravels through each lesson. I think it is a must for non-Arabic speaking people.

Baqir Hussain

This course has helped me to a great extent in my understanding of religion and the Quran. Simply put, this course changed my life.Like any other "average" Muslim, I was brought up in a Muslim country, in a relatively religious household, studied religion regularly for almost a decade in weekend Madrassa classes, even topped those classes and then for a while also taught at the weekend Madrassa. I thought I knew a fair bit about religion and religious concepts. I luckily one day found out about this course 5 years back....and have never looked back since!  After attending this course, I realised that while growing up, there were a lot of incorrect concepts that were taught (and are still being taught) as "Islamic" concepts, many of which surprisingly do NOT have a basis in religion. This course cleared a very many number of misconceptions I had in religion which I did not even know that existed in my mind in the first place. Everything that is taught is done academically and backed up with evidence and proof which is simply amazing and unlike any other course that I have come across. We race each other especially in Ramadan to read the Quran to get "Sawaab" without even trying to understand it. For those who try to understand the Quran, we think we can know the meaning of the Quran by reading translations. One of the shocking things I found out is that very many translations are simply not correct or accurate and at times even change the intended meaning! Try the first 3 lessons and I guarantee you, you will never look back again...!

I have for approximately the last 2 years been part of other similar Telegram and WhatsApp courses and groups offering Quranic Arabic Vocabulary courses. It may seem at first that the content is similar to these courses. But its NOT. Also the approach is completely different. In fact, you may be doing yourself a disservice where you may think you are learning the Quran whereas you are not. The other courses simply translate the literal dictionary meaning of that word and often this is not correct.

To give you a few examples from one of the similar course that offers the translation of"

  1. Bismillahir Rahman ArRahim as "In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful" - Lets be honest with ourselves here, many of us (including myself) don't even know the proper meaning of "Beneficent". And surprisingly, we are satisfied with the explanations given to us. The actual meaning is in fact something along the lines of "I start with the use of the (direct reflection), name of (Allah), the one who bewilders the rational mind due to the severity of His beauty, the infinitely merciful, the severely merciful"
  2. Or the other similar courses translate the word "Hamd" as Praise. Then what does "Sanaa" mean? Or what does "Madh" mean? Or what does "Shukr" mean? Quran is very specific in terms of the words that are used. There are no synonums in the Quran. In other courses, all of these words are similarly translated whereas in fact the actual root or deeper meaning is much different.
  3. Similarly, the Arabic words "Wa'ad", "Misaaq", "Ahad", "Nazar" are all similarly translated as promise. Again, this is not the case. The Ilm Quran course dives deeper into the root meaning of these words.

Furthermore, the Ilm Quran course gives you the option to have discussions, ask questions, clarify your thoughts. This is all possible because there is a teacher involved instead of it being a self-learning course.

And the above is just the tip of the iceberg....

I would recommend this course to others for the above mentioned reasons. Also, I would simply say, attend 5 classes, and you will never look back! This is a Hawza level course now being offered online for the first time!!! Its a no-brainer really.

I understand the verses faster than before. And the Quran and Islam makes more sense to me. I can see the logic behind Islam. I learned the precise meanings of the words and this really helped me. Before attending the course many of the verses seemed the same to me. Now I know my responsibilities to the reappearance of lmam Mahdi. In one word I understood Islam is much more beautiful than I thought. I would recommend this course to others because it really changed my understanding of the Quran and my religion. In my opinion everyone should know these things about Islam. This course had lots of benefits for me which I mentioned above.

I can confidently say this class has been monumental in my growth. I cannot stress how important this course is and how much I recommend it to people. At the very minimum, do Book 1. This would allow you to better understand what you are saying in Salah. I used to say 'Ya Rabby' in my last sajdah of salah. After learning what the word actually means it gave a whole new perspective to what I was saying and who I was saying it to. I'm about to tear up just talking about it. I HIGHLY recommend this course. I have watched other Arabic teaching videos on YouTube. This course is different because it goes into the deeper meanings of the Quranic words instead of simply translating them. I will give you a hint: "Allah" does not mean what you probably think it means.

The instructor and the course material together have helped me understand and develop more love for Quran. The book itself is great, but just the book itself is not enough. Our instructor has been an inspiration and a very important part of the equation. The explanation and the root words background has sharpened our thought process.  Now we look for new words and try to relate to them with other words that come from the same root words. I was a member of a telegram group teaching a different course a few years ago where they used similar vocab but that was just learning meanings of the words. This course, the material and the instructions that come along, and the whole understanding as we went along has been a life changing experience. It is nothing compared to what I have seen before. I would definitely recommend this course to everyone. My son and I started this course together with Book 1 and now we are doing Book 2 Al Hamdolillah.  My wife has now started book 1 and I can't wait for my 9 year old daughter to start soon Inshallah.

Mansoor Haider

The course clarified heaps of common misconceptions we have in our religion primarily due to our cultural baggage. Secondly, by explaining the deeper meanings of the words, we get to know the hidden gems of the Quran. Sometimes the meaning is altogether different than the traditional translation. The crux of the learning for me is to be positive all the time for others impartial to their faiths and struggle hard to learn and act, as there will be no free lunch here or hereafter.

I already recommended this course to a few of my acquaintances. Because, it's a great opportunity to understand the Quran without any dependency on third party translation. Plus you learn as a team and it's a great chance to learn from each other. Questions raised in the class also helps because you might learn something new or different that you can't think of in solo mode.

Ayaz Wadia

This course has evolved my understanding of the religion and Quran. It has helped me understand and realize all of Ws (what, why and how). Nothing like this course exists because in every language course or Quran or Arabic course I have attended, they do not go much into explaining root words. and not just literal meaning but also the deep meaning of it. That is why I would recommend this to anyone who wants to truly understand what you read and get realization and get closeness towards THE ONE GOD and HIS teachings. I would definitely recommend this course because this course brings you closer to understanding the phrase that we all have heard all of our lives "Quran - key to success", " This book is a living miracle". A Must attend course. But keep in mind you have to empty your cup i.e. open to understand what is being said and not come in with a preconceived notion. Remember preconceived notions are the locks on the door to wisdom.

I feel like I have a firmer grasp on religion in general but it’s also opened up many more questions (in a good way). I do feel like I understand better what the Quran is trying to convey- or what I think the Quran is trying to convey. I took the Arabic translation course based on a similar book a couple of years ago. This course goes deeper and really helped to open up the Quran- not simply look at the surface level. I would recommend this course to others because I loved it and I think it will help others explore the Quran (and then in turn religion) more deeply. The concepts brought up in the course can be very deep. It may help to have other resources to recommend to explore those concepts- books or articles on theology.

Just yesterday I was reading Quran with my mom and I pointed out several words that I now understand... and was able to use context clues to figure out what the verses meant. So grateful for this course— more than I can express! I have already recommended it to my friends and family. I have learned so much, and not just the Arabic in Quran, but I love how the teacher goes in details about other topics as well. I personally really enjoyed when we were talking about Aqaid, Akham and Akhlas and the several realms of existence. I would recommend this course to others because it is a modern views of Islam and it is all useful knowledge.

I think learning about the root words and the grammatical structure has helped me understand the Quran while reading it without the translation. I've noticed that even without knowing all the words in a verse, I can use the surrounding pronouns and the words that I do know to understand, and at least get the general context. I took another course several years ago, but it followed the basic translation more than the deeper translation behind the root words. This course will help someone who wants a deeper relationship and understanding of the Quran.

Excellent teacher. He provides context (from the Quran and otherwise) for the words we learn so that inshallah we have a better grasp of what the ayaats are saying. We also learn grammar and how it impacts on the meanings. He also asks us to reflect and stretch our thinking when it’s to our understanding of Islam. I very much look forward the classes. I feel that even though with the little knowledge I have gained so far, my way of looking at the Quran has changed. I can’t wait to learn and understand more.

This course has helped me so much that I don’t know how or where to start! One of the best things this course did is it that completely changed my understanding of Arabic words that we use in our everyday lives. It was only after taking this course that I realized how powerful the ibadaat we do every day are. Apart from helping me understand the Quran, this course has also given me a better understanding of some of our most established and remarkable duas (including dua kumayl). The course in general is meant to focus on concepts. This course is different in the sense that, instead of translating Arabic to English word by word, it focuses on creating an image for each Arabic word in your mind. This helps to create a deeper, 3D understanding of the Arabic word which will enable you to grasp concepts better. This course is life changing, I would 100% recommend this course to any person. My closest friends and family already know about this course because I won’t stop talking about this to them. This is not a memorization class, rather an understanding class. The course has a lot of room for questions and discussions that are extremely practical in our everyday lives.

This course has immensely helped me in understanding religion and Quran. I feel a lot of difference when I recite the Quran now, even though I have only finished Book 1, I know the meanings of many words and  I can make out the meaning of many small ayaat or part of big ayaat. This makes my recitation more interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend this course to everybody and I do, it is greatly helpful. I strongly recommend everybody to take out some time from their busy schedule and make it useful by spending it in learning what is most important to be learned.

Muntazir Panjwani

This course has immensely increased my knowledge and understanding of the Quran. I, being 17 years old when I started Book 1, was not that well versed with the Quran and felt that reading it was just something I had to do for a check mark. Taking this class was a way to ground me to a purpose and introduce me to a different view of something I considered to be just a "book". After completing book 1, I found myself smiling every time I heard or read a verse, because I could immediately figure out what it meant. That feeling alone is unparalleled, and more than enough reason to take the class. I would definitely recommend this course to others. I feel that the Quran has become something robotic in our lives. And while that might not necessarily be a bad thing for some, we all have a need to understand the words of god, and this class is a sure way to do just that. Anyone who feels that we don't give the Quran enough time and respect or feels that there needs to be more attention given to the book, would benefit from this class. No matter where this class is taking place, the content is extremely important, and should be treated as such. The words of god are not something to be taken lightly, and effort should be put in to understand them.

I have now started to translate a little as I recite Aayaat. Absolutely. It helps you understand Quran as you recite. We appreciate the patience and the manner in which the teacher is explaining things at “Our’”( student’s) level keeping it very easy to grasp and retain. He builds up on concepts at the interest put forward by our group assessing the ability/level we will comprehend at.

I think the teacher equally makes a big difference when it comes to a course like this. When the teacher spends time and looks at the root of each word and explains it in a way that shows you the same word is translated then it makes a BIG Difference. For example: Rab - Lord Rab – Nurturer.

  1. Structure very good
  2.  Books are very good
  3. The lessons breakdown is excellent
  4. . Introducing grammar in the way it is done (compares to Saf and nahv) is very helpful
  5. . Books are of a very high quality and the breakdown per lesson is not too long and not too short

I read the Quran very differently now, I read it word by word compared to before just read the translation. Thank you! long may this continue and you are able to find high caliber teachers.

I'm a native Arabic speaker and found this course provides a new dimension to understand the Quran. We can use what we learned as a foundation for understanding other religious concepts and practices. Using the Quranic words/terms in the course to explore their application from a cultural and social point of view, it provides a valuable connection and insight to real life.
